(1) Production of phenol
Phenol can be produced by liquid phase oxidation of benzoic acid.
(2) Production of terephthalic acid
Terephthalic acid is one of the raw materials of synthetic fiber polyester.
(3) caprolactam production
Caprolactam is the raw material for the production of nylon. Both strands are produced with phenol and cyclohexane, but also with benzoic acid.
(4) chemical intermediates
Benzoic acid can be used as intermediate in the production of benzoate and phthalate, which are important plasticizers.
(5) Plasticizer
Benzoic acid reacts with diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol and dipropylene glycol respectively to produce important and common resin plasticizers diethylene glycol dibenzoate (DEDB), triethylene glycol dibenzoate (TEDB) and dipropylene glycol dibenzoate (DPGDB), which are widely used in the production of resins, coatings and adhesives.
