There are a number of dif­fer­ent methods for agri­cul­tur­al irri­ga­tion, pipe irri­ga­tion is one of them. It is con­sid­ered a tra­di­tion­al method with quite logic advan­tages. Pipe irri­ga­tion enables extreme­ly precise irri­ga­tion with rel­a­tive­ly even water dis­tri­b­u­tion over the entire surface. The water resources can be used opti­mal­ly, wind drift and dif­fu­sion into the atmos­phere are low. This method is perfect for veg­etable crops such as new pota­toes, carrots or onions. THE CLASSIC SYSTEM Classic irri­ga­tion system Classic irri­ga­tion system with sprin­kler lines to lay out is per­fect­ly suited for small areas and farms where enough work­force is avail­able to operate the system. The piping system con­sists of the fol­low­ing main components: ■PUMP UNIT: tractor‑, electro- or diesel pump unit ■MAIN LINE: con­sist­ing of pipes laid in the ground or quick-cou­pling pipes, depend­ing on the indi­vid­ual situation ■PIPELINES AND SPRINKLER: The pipeline and the sprin­klers need to be moved to the next posi­tion after the desired pre­cip­i­ta­tion rate has been reached. Small as well as wide range sprin­klers are suit­able for this system. The type of the sprin­kler depends on the size of the irri­gat­ed area. The average expen­di­ture of work for this irri­ga­tion system is approx. 2–3 hours per hectare and irri­ga­tion amount.
