Is a new ultra-clean, early ripening, bread-making variety with excellent untreated yields and baking qualities.
DSV Diamond joined the Candidate List last November and it is DSV’s newest baking variety.
It combines a rare combination of Pch1 eyespot resistance and Sm1 for orange blossom midge resistance, making it a top choice for growers.
Diamond offers similar yields to the control Extase, it also produces some of the highest untreated yields in the dataset. Diamond has a high specific weight at 78.4kg/hl
It shows some of the highest combined disease scores seen to date in a bread maker with major improvements in mildew and brown rust scores compared to other varieties on offer.
Diamond has very good grain quality with a very stable Hagberg Falling number and excellent protein content. It is a stiff strawed variety with a very aggressive growth habit, especially in the spring.
After analysing data from DSV’s second wheat sites and assessing Diamond’s performance, our breeder feels that Diamond would perform very well in a second cereal situation, backed up by its decent eyespot score and Pch1 for tolerance.
Diamond has a flexible drilling window offering growers the ability to plant this variety across a range of sowing dates.
