The SF-2 probes arose as a particular idea in which it was sought to make a measurement of back fat at point P2 in pigs, offering a much better measurement reliability than with type A ultrasound equipment.
In addition, as we are performing an ultrasound in the dorsal area of the sow, we can measure the diameter of the loin. This gives us extra information that we did not have before, and that is very useful to us since the sows have less and less back fat.
Lately it is also being used in cattle and sheep. Therefore, we will use it as an ultrasound scanner to measure back fat and loin diameter in pigs, cattle and sheep.
