Laboratory grainscope OLISLAB 5100 (for grain), an upgraded version of the device DSZ-3, is designed to determine vitreousness of wheat grain, vitreousness and fracturing of husked rice by their optical properties.
With the help of the device, a visual assessment of 100 grains located in a cassette and illuminated by a light flux is carried out, with a count of vitreous and powdery grains, followed by the calculation of the vitreous index.
The vitreousness determination method is used to classify grain and determine its further intended use and is based on the unequal ability of vitreous and mealy grains to transmit light due to the different consistency of the endosperm.
It is used at grain-receiving, grain-processing, variety-testing breeding stations and in research laboratories.
Scope of application: for the standardized determination of grain vitreousness according to the methodology given in GOST 10987-76 “Grain. Methods for determining vitreousness” (not valid in Ukraine) and for use in other methods according to domestic and international standards.
Laboratory grainscope OLISLAB 5100 consists of a body; a cassette movement mechanism; magnifying lenses; light sources – LEDs.
The principle of operation of the device is based on the illumination of a cassette with a grain of light at an angle of 50º, which ensures the flow of scattered light from light sources. To improve recognition, a lens with a magnification factor of ×2 is used, installed in a mask with a border of dark polymer material to isolate the user’s eyes and lens from stray light.
