On demand of a customer, Pezzolato adapts its drum chipper PTH 900/820 to couple it with a self-propelled forage harvester John Deere 7700 with 520 Hp motor. In such a coupling, chipper and forage harvester are perfectly integrated: the chipper drum (whose diameter measures 820 mm and is large 900 mm) is powered by the harvester’s motor and chips are conveyed to the harvester’s blower and discharged by the related launch pipe. A crane Kronos, model 6020, has also been incorporated to feed the chipper. The chipper has been sized to bear the maximum output power of the harvester’s motor (520 Hp) and is able to chip logs up to 50 cm; it is mounted in front of the harvester instead of the cutting header and is provided with two hydraulic stabilizers, which stabilize it also when working with the integrated feeding crane, whose arm is 7.6 m long. Both chipper and crane’s controls are installed inside the comfortable cabin of the harvesting machine; one operator only, sitting in the quiet and stress less cab environment, is able to perform the whole wood working process: moving the machine, feeding the chipper, chipping and loading chips in a container. Thanks to the integration realized by Pezzolato, cutter head and chipper with incorporated crane are two interchangeable accessories of the same harvesting machine, so that there is a match for both operations of forage harvesting and wood chipping; it means that it can be used for several operations and more months in a year. Furthermore, the harvesting machine being conceived to work in the fields, it can bring the chipper wherever a chipper mounted on truck could not access.
