Winter rape seed

SAATBAU produces and markets seeds of the well known 00-quality (low erucic acid and low glucosinulate levels) of winter oilseed rape which is known for its healthy character in human consumption. The breeding objective of subsidiary >Saatzucht Donau is to develop winter oilseed rape varieties which are adapted to different environments and are able to perform with the highest possible yields and best quality. We test our material during several years all over Europe to develop the most suitable material for each region. A wide disease screening and testing on relevant diseases is also part of this process. The breeders are working on Omega-9 winter oilseed rape to provide the “next generation” of healthy oils. These oils are characterised by a high content of oleic acid on the one hand and a concomitantly low level of linolenic acid. This higher proportion of monounsaturated fatty acids provides the oil a better heat stability and makes it more stable against oxidation and modification towards trans fatty acids.
