The popularity of the FR28 forwarder quickly led to inquiries after a slightly larger machine. The clients wanted a machine they could use for later thinning that could also be used for regeneration felling.
And so the FR48 forwarder was born. This FR28’s big brother has a payload of 12 ton. The main concept is built around tried and tested solutions. The motor is the same Agco Power 49 LFTN diesel with 140 kW maximum power, the cab is the same; practically the whole front end of the machine is the same with the exceptions of the axles.
"Oversized" axles
Massive NAF Heavy Duty axles were chosen with a 14-tonne payload capacity and reinforced rocker bearings. So, the axles have plenty of reserve capacity. The wheel size of this bigger machine is 26.5 inches. In addition to bearing capacity and strength, the bigger wheel size makes driving in e.g., deep snow easier.
All-wheel drive
The FR48 forwarder has a hydrostatic-mechanical transmission. The drive pump operates a mechanical gear box through the drive motor. The transmission axles distribute the power to the front and back axles. Drive can be locked between the front and back axles, and also between the right and left side of each bogie. Using the NAF bogies, a continuous 17 ton drive power delivered by 8 wheels can be created.
