The CROSSTRAP® is a trap to stop coleopterans during flight. It is the latest generation in cross-vane forest traps. This trap is product of an R&D project (University of Murcia - ECONEX) aimed at developing traps and attractants for forest pests.
TARGET PEST:
Coleopterans such as Ips typographus, Ips sexdentatus, Dendroctonus rufipennis, Dendroctonus pseudotsugae, Dendroctonus ponderosae, Dendroctonus frontalis, Dendroctonus brevicomis, Monochamus galloprovincialis, Orthotomicus erosus, Scolytus scolytus, Scolytus multistriatus, Tomicus piniperda, Tomicus destruens, Trypodendron lineatum.
TRAP COMPONENTS:
The trap consists of a 33 cm diameter polypropylene lid with a central carabiner attached to a steel spring. Two reinforced PVC vanes are held in place by four steel springs in the lid’s upper section. They are used as elements of dynamic suspension, serving as shock absorbers against the force of the wind exerted on the trap. This way, avoiding its breakage in the forest. The vanes are attached at the bottom to a 30 cm diameter polypropylene funnel. At the bottom of the funnel is the CROSSTRAP® WET COLLECTION CUP, attached to it with metal screws. The PVC vanes, funnel and collection cup are treated with a slippery film to significantly increase captures and prevent the pests from escaping. The collection cup has a capacity of approximately 2 litres and a drainage system in the upper section to prevent it from filling with rainwater. Its measurements are 12,5 cm diameter x 19 cm high. Wet captures allow for the correct identification of insects.
