Smectite clays form strong bonds with mycotoxins in the interlayers of the clay and ensure that the most toxic mycotoxins are excreted into the faeces. Montmorrillonite clay is a specific type of layered smectites. Scientific research has shown that smectites are unique in their capacity to selectively bind mycotoxins.
