Extra protection of piglets The JLF15 is a farrowing pen for loose housed sows with an option for extra protection of the piglets in the critical period around farrowing. The sows are confined in the first days by use of the protective farrowing crate, thus decreasing piglet mortality. After a few days in confinement the crate is no longer needed and can be opened. This provides the piglets with a better access to the udder and thereby improves their wellbeing. Practical solution The JLF15 is a space saving solution as it is quadratic and covers a smaller area than other farrowing pens for loose housed sows. This means that you can set up more pens on the available area. The pen is made of strong and durable fiber panels or alternatively glass fiber panels, in a height of 90 cm except for the walls the sow cannot reach. These walls are 50 cm high which aids a better ventilation and at the same time it saves costs.
