Description

Improved well-being and increased welfare JLF14 is a modern and flexible farrowing pen for loose sows with the possibility to protect the piglets in the first period around the time of farrowing. The design of the farrowing pen provides optimal conditions for the loose sow and for the piglets so that the piglet mortality is minimized. The pen is provided with feed corner including a stainless steel trough for the piglets, meaning that the can eat without being disturbed. Less risk of injury and crushing In the first critical days after farrowing, the sow's area can be limited by using the protection wings - which will be hanged along the pen side and the climate cover in "open mode". This pen function and design provides extra protection for the piglets, as the risk of crushing is minimized. The protection wings of the farrowing pen are free-hanging and thus has no legs in the rear end. It ensures that the piglets umbilical cord will not be interfered - and it also minimizes the risk of the sow dewclaws to be injured. Optimal usability The gate into the pen opens both ways, thus making birth help, daily supervision and the movement of piglets and sows significantly easier. The design also allows the staff easy access of the pen to perform the daily routine of the pen. Furthermore the rear gate of the protection wing can be turned around so there is no need of removing the rear gate when the sow is loose in the pen.
