WaterScout SM100 measures Soil Moisture or Volumetric Water Content (VWC). Maintaining a healthy soil moisture and water balance is essential for producing high quality plants. Under watered plants suffer from nutrient deficiencies, stunting and wilting. Conversely, over watered plants are more susceptible to disease pressure and less tolerant of dry conditions later on in their life cycle. Extreme over watering will suffocate the plan and lead to root death. The SM100 sensor is a capacitance type soil moisture and responds immediately to changes in soil moisture content of better irrigation decisions. It is calibrated for mineral soils or soilless media and installs easily into a 3/4" (1.9cm) hole. This sensor can be installed permanently or can be used to take spot measurements. You can connect up 4 sensors depending on the weather station you are connecting to. Data can be read with the FieldScout Soil Sensor Reader (Item #6466) (Includes a 20' (6.1m) Cable)
